My night train to Surfers Paradise left Central at
4pm, so I had half a day left in Sydney. My last night at the hostel was better
as far as the coughing, sneezing, and sniffing were concerned and worse because
the French folks were very noisy when they got home drunk. On the upside, they
were too drunk for sex, too.
It was another one of those sick days that I would
have loved to spend in bed, but since I had to check out, I went to Bondi Beach
instead, trying to cure the cold with sea breeze and sunshine, and maybe get a
little bit of tan on my vampire-pale legs in the process. I’m one of about
three people on the beach who are pale, everyone else looks super tan and,
again, super fit. Those who aren’t surfing are running, swimming, doing Yoga,
working on strength with their personal trainer, or are throwing balls. Once I
get rid of this cold, I’ll need to start working out again. Otherwise they
might kick me out of their country…
The only area of bare skin I had forgotten to put
sunscreen on were my feet, because I’ve never had sunburn on my feet. Until
now. They were already turning red when I got on the train at 4pm. Over night,
they have also swollen to double their normal size and they burn like hell. I’ve
also got a spot of sunburn on my left thigh, which I don’t understand because I
had sunscreen on my legs; and why is it only that spot and not the entire
area?!
As I’m writing this, I am sitting on the beach in
Surfers Paradise. It’s warm/humid enough for a bikini at 7.30am. Thank God it’s
overcast, so there’s no direct sunshine on my feet, which I have covered in
sunscreen just to be sure. The train ride was a bit of a nightmare because
there was a screaming toddler in front of me who kept going for hours. In
combination with my cold and a severe headache, I thought about jumping out of
the window quite a bit. I hope that three days of beach vacation in Surfers are
enough to get rid of this stupid cold for good.
Sunburn on the feet?! That sucks! (I've had it before, but I imagine Australian sun burns a bit hotter...)
AntwortenLöschenI hope you feel better soon. That cold sounds really nasty. You should really try to cure it.
